Jack Sends His Love

August 23rd, 2011 . by Melissa

My dear friend Diane asked me the other day if Jack “understands” that I’m having a baby. The question reminded me to share this cute, little story on the blog before I forget it!

On Sunday, we flew home from Utah. We had a 3 hour nonstop from Salt Lake to Indy. Nothing awful. Still, we packed a few snacks for Jack to tie him over during the trip. Mid-flight the attendants routinely offered us their complimentary snacks. We grabbed some cookies (the yummy Biscoff ones that only Delta serves) and some pretzels. I had been feeling great for most of our time in Utah but all of the sudden the nausea came back with a vengeance (and is still lingering, ugh!) My nausea this pregnancy has been much worse than it was with Jack and is agitated by an empty stomach. So after two hours on the plane I desperately needed to either open my bag of pretzels or open the barf bag. I grabbed the pretzels. Jack was sitting on my lap at the time and of course wanted some for himself.  I tried to offer him Cheerios instead but he, of course, wanted what I was having. He grabbed the pretzels out of my hands and started to shove them in his mouth. Since there were only 7 mini pretzels in the bag to begin with I was a little worried after Jack had eaten 2 and was clutching in his little hands, two more, that 3 would not be enough to stave off a looming up-chuck. So, I asked him if I could eat one of his reserve pretzels for the baby. I told him that the baby needed some pretzels too. So, he took one of the pretzels in his hand and slid it in an opening between two buttons on my shirt, near my belly. Then he dropped it, patted my tummy and gave me a big smile. I laughed out loud at the cutest display of love and sharing I’ve ever seen come from my little toddler. I think he’ll be a great big brother!
