We decided to break up our long drive home from South Carolina with two stops. First, we stopped in Asheville, North Carolina (original home of the great Kathy Gerth) to see my step-brother and his family. It was really nice to visit with them and see their kiddos! Then, we continued on to Gatlinburg. When I was little (I think the first time I was two) my family visited Gatlinburg all the time. It was only a 4.5 hour drive and since my dad LOOOVES the great outdoors the Smokey’s beckoned. It wasn’t Gatlinburg to me if we didn’t do all the fun stuff I did as a kid so we made our way up to Ober Gatlinburg on the SkyTram and rode the alpine slide with the kids. I loved it, every second of it. We also took a quick hike up in the Smokey’s but since we only had a day to spend we had to make it brief. Our trip was made complete, however, when we saw a mama bear and her 3 cubs in the wild!! It was so awesome and a little too close for my comfort. We hope to go back again soon and do a little more hiking.
Cadence and I on the aerial tram. I have this same exact picture with me and my mom when I was two. I wish I could find it!
Ready for the alpine slide!
This was the first tram at Ober Gatlinburg, it was the one I used to right up on with my family.
Jason and Jack climbing around at GSMNP.
Cadence enjoying the beautiful views!
Family shot! (these are rare, so big thanks to the random stranger for taking our picture)
My two little cuddle bugs back at the hotel.
Another gorgeous view at GSMNP.
We walked on the Appalachian Trail, only a few steps but hey, check it off the list!
Jack and I at the top of our very steep hike, the clouds were blocking our view. It was 59 degrees, in July!!!?!
Jase and Cadence at the top of Clingman’s Dome.
And an oldie but goodie. Me and a friend from elementary school on spring break riding on the tram up to Ober Gatlinburg. Love my hair??
