Jackson’s baby blessing was last Saturday in our home. It was so very special to watch Jason bless our first child and give him a name, with all of our family and friends gathered around us in support. The spirit was very strong and I was so proud that my father, father-in-law, and husband are all worthy priesthood holders and were able to stand in the circle. Jack was blessed with many great talents and skills and I am so grateful for the wonderful journey that lies ahead of him. I just hope Jason and I can be good examples to him and can teach this beautiful boy Heavenly Father has entrusted us with all that he needs to know.
For anyone who is not familiar with the baby blessing ordinance (as I think it is fairly specific to our religion), here is a little background straight from the Church’s website: “The father, if he holds the Melchizedek Priesthood and is worthy, or another person who holds the Melchizedek Priesthood, holds the baby in his arms, assisted by others who must also hold the Melchizedek Priesthood, and says a prayer. In the prayer, he addresses our Father in Heaven, says he performs the ordinance by the authority of the Melchizedek Priesthood, and gives the baby a name that is chosen by the parents. He then blesses the baby as the Holy Ghost inspires him.”
While Jackson is not yet officially a member of the Church (and won’t be until he is baptized at age 8), he is now recorded on the membership records.
